Higherlife Foundation is a social impact organization that invests in human capital to build thriving individuals, communities and sustainable livelihoods. Areas of focus are education, health, leadership and lifelong development, job creation and sustainable livelihood as well as girls empowerment. The mission of the organisation is to invest in Africa’s human capital in order to build thriving individuals, communities, and sustainable livelihoods. It has a footprint in five African countries including Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Burundi, Kenya, and Rwanda.
Danai Nhando is a human rights lawyer and social impact programming specialist. She serves as the Head of Legal and Operations at Higherlife Foundation. In her role, she oversees the Foundation’s Health Portfolio which includes the Cholera Elimination Secretariat – the pioneering organ that spearheaded multi-stakeholder collaboration towards the development of Zimbabwe’s Cholera elimination roadmap, to eliminate Cholera by 2028.
Danai is passionate about democratizing access to quality education and has led the development of two education-focused social enterprises; Ruzivo Digital Learning, the first locally developed online interactive digital learning platform for primary and high school students in Zimbabwe, and Edubuntu, a digital learning platform that delivers free interactive online learning in South Africa.
A TechWomen Fellow and TEDx Speaker, she is also the Co-Founder of Kasi Maths, a non-profit after-school STEM program, designed to help high school students from underprivileged township schools develop mathematical skills, gain confidence in their mathematical abilities and increase their enjoyment of mathematics using tools such as robotics, 3D Printing and coding.
Danai holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Rhodes University, as well as an MBA (with distinction) from Royal Holloway, University of London.
